Letter to Editor – January 2008

January 14, 2008
Dear Editor;
As a non-profit agency, SAFE Shelter struggles all year to provide temporary emergency shelter to victims of domestic violence and their children. Our shoestring budget does not allow any extras, so when Christmas rolls around, we have to turn to the community for help. This year when we asked for help, Savannah and Chatham County residents responded by giving 75 of our families the best, most beautiful Christmas they have ever had! Everyday during the holiday season , cars and trucks pulled up to our administrative offices, loaded with cheer and presents. I wish I could share with everyone the priceless scenes of mothers receiving beautifully wrapped presents for their children. While one day can’t erase years of hardship and abuse, at least now our families have the memories of one absolutely perfect, magical Christmas this year. For over 25 years, this community has been very generous in its support of SAFE Shelter. Last year, almost 1,000 victims of domestic violence received services through our agency. It’s because of all of you that we can continue our mission to break the cycle of violence.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Haven Branch
Executive Director
